Yachts will get ready to set sail on December 27 for The Good Guys Launceston to Hobart Yacht Race, where many skippers and their crews will battle it out to come in on top.
The annual Tasmanian yachting event begins at Beauty Point on the Tamar River, stretching across 285 nautical miles to finish around two days later at Hobart's historic Battery Point.
The race along Tasmania's eastern coastline has had a few changes this year with a new naming rights sponsor – electrical retailer The Good Guys – and adjustments to the rules, allowing the overall winners of the race to be eligible to collect all placings for the handicap categories entered.
In last year's race, Masquerade was placed as the overall winner but was unable to claim trophies for other categories, but the revision of the rules for 2012 will allow winners to have multiple trophies.
"We believe the most successful yacht in the race, on corrected time, should receive due recognition not only as overall winner but for her divisional win or wins, be they AMS, IRC or PHS," DSS Commodore Ron Bugg said in a press release from August 29.
Keen yachties can register interest now on the Launceston to Hobart (L2H) website, to receive the upcoming race information package and also receive an update when entries open.
