Spend this weekend at the Launceston Esk Market

From reality television programs to office baking competitions, it seems that cooking is undergoing a resurgence in Tasmania.

But it is not just any type of food that is making it onto restaurant menus and household eating plans.

Fresh, locally produced fruits and vegetables now sit centre stage among free range meats and poultry supplies.

Artisan cheeses and wines and bouquet chocolates have taken over where store-bought cakes for dessert left off.

And helping aspiring chefs of all ages make the transition from the kitchen to a more commercial space are a range of markets that specialise in the finest ingredients.

One of the more popular destinations among foodies is the Launceston Esk Market – which is held weekly on Sundays.

With more than 150 stalls, you will be sure to find what you are looking for at this friendly market.

There is also plenty of staff on hand to answer any questions you may have about the way certain items are cultivated, harvested or produced, making it easier to make an informed choice about the food you are eating.

For those who get hungry before it is time to head home, you can also find a number of stalls selling refreshments and snacks.

The keen shopper will also be able to find everything from handmade biscuits through to bric-a-brac, pre-loved items, clothing, books, toys, collectables, antique and craft goods and much, much, more.

So this weekend why not avoid the hustle and bustle of regular shopping centres and purchase all your fresh food goods in a fun and friendly atmosphere?

The Launceston Esk Market is located at the Launceston Showground on Forster Street and doors are open from 09.00 to 14.00.

Entry and parking is free, however, it is best to contact the market's organisers about disability access on the day.
