Handcrafted whisky at Tasmania’s Nant Distillery

There's no need to go looking overseas for that special bottle of whisky, with some of the finest liquid gold produced right here in Australia.

The Nant Distillery sits in the very heart of Tasmania, resting on the Clyde River, only three kilometres outside of the historic town of Bothwell.

Australia's only Highland Single Malt Whisky is produced at the historic Nant Estate, in the central highlands of Tasmania, made from 100 per cent Tasmanian brewer's barley and water from the River Clyde.

Nant Whisky's 'liquid gold' achieved a brilliant 95.5 rating in whisky writer and critic Jim Murray's highly prestigious 2012 Whisky Bible.

The Batt family acquired the Nant Estate almost a decade ago, with the passionate team breathing new life into the distillery in 2005, restoring the old water-driven flour mill, homestead and farm complex.

The Mill (circa 1823) now has a full production whisky distillery, private tasting room and an Atrium Lounge and Whisky Bar, with visitors able to enjoy a glass of high quality whisky in a luxurious environment decorated with custom-made furniture, antiques and original artwork.

If you have a soft spot for a good glass of whisky, then don't delay your visit to the Nant Estate; they have distillery tours and the newly opened Cellar Door Cafe ready and waiting!

You can visit the Nant Estate's cellar door for a tasting of the Nant single malt or book a fully guided tour of the old Nant water mill and whisky distillery for you and a few friends.

Tours are only $15 per person and are available daily at 11:00 or 13:00.

Don't forget to also dine at the Nant Cellar Door cafe, which boasts homegrown estate fresh produce and Tasmania's "finest culinary samples"!

Tuck in to meals such as lamb cassoulet with roasted Nicola potatoes, spicy smoky seafood chowder with crusty Huon Valley bread or mouthwatering beef bourgogne.
