Looking for a great day out with the kids? Then you may want to pencil in a visit to Ulverstone on any holiday to-do list.

If you find that the budget is stretched it is great to find activities which you can add-on or achieve a lot with for very little expenditure.

With this in mind, it is hard to go past a drive to Ulverston to see the city's many parks and attractions.

Situated on the beautiful North West Coast of Tasmania at the mouth of the Leven River, Ulverston is known for its gorgeous scenery and generous hospitality.

It is also a short drive from Devonport, which means it is easily accessible by car or bus but far enough away from the hustle and bustle of a big city that you feel as if you may well be in the country.

ANZAC Park is a well known destination among parents due to its good kids' facilities and BBQ area – which is ideal for an afternoon picnic or informal party with a group of friends.

Another site to seek out is the Fairway Park, it has a bird sanctuary and water-slide – the latter may not be the best idea in winter, but your little ones will be sure to have fun trying to spot and name different types of birds.

For those who are keen to get some fresh air and take advantage of the city's impressive coastal views, you will find all of this and more in Legion Park.

You might also consider adding a trip to Castra Falls and Gunns Plains caves to your activity list while you are in the area.
